The first day of the Esports World Cup comes to a close. We witness a lot of upsets and crazy plays and games for the opening day of the Esports with much more to come. We have a recap of Day 1 below:

GamerLegion vs The MongolZ

The first game of the day at the Esports World Cup was between GamerLegion and The MongolZ. Both teams were fighting in their first game to avoid straight elimination from the tournament. GamerLegion could not find their footing against the strong looking Mongolian side, falling without reaching double digits on both maps, with the second map of Inferno, GamerLegion were only able to secure three rounds in their favour.

Na’Vi vs 3DMAX:

Na’Vi were next up on the schedule to battle it out in their elimination game against the French side of 3DMAX. Both teams looked strong on Ancient, where Na’Vi were able to take that map and get up 1-0 in the series. However, in a crazy reverse sweep, 3DMAX were able to batter Na’Vi in the late rounds on the final two maps and secure both for themselves. This means Na’Vi are now eliminated from the tournament here in Riyadh.

TYLOO vs Astralis

Another elimination game took place between the Asian side, TYLOO, and Danish side, Astralis, to see who would have an early exit here at the Esports World Cup. Astralis were able to best TYLOO in their opening map of Inferno. TYLOO however, were able to reverse sweep Astralis winning the series 2:1 and eliminating the side from Riyadh. TYLOO survive another day.

Vitality vs Liquid

Highly anticipated match between the dominant Vitality and less comfortable looking Liquid was another matchup played here at the Esports World Cup. Liquid however, showed that they were here to challenge Vitality getting 11 rounds against the side on Mirage and taking them to overtime on Dust2. They unfortunately lost both maps, leading to their immediate elimination form the tournament, although they showed signs of great teamwork and communication. Could this be positive for the future of Liquid?

Spirit vs HEROIC

Another unexpected result was Spirit vs HEROIC. HEROIC after a shaky start, were able to reverse sweep the dominating side of Spirit who come of multiple trophy lifts. HEROIC, after being stomped 13-5 on Ancient, were able to obliterate Spirit on Nuke, where they only allowed Spirit to get 3 rounds! Spirit now exit the tournament and HEROIC move on to fight another day.

FaZe vs Aurora

FaZe took on Aurora in their elimination game here at the Esports World Cup. FaZe, as of recent, have looked really shaky and uncoordinated. They were able to secure the first map of the series in this matchup but crumbled, losing 13-3 and 13-7 to Aurora in the final two maps. They are also now eliminated from yet another tournament. Aurora progress forward in their run in Riyadh.
